Eerst en vooral werd het leder behandeld met Klucel. Een soort lijm die die doordringt in het leder en de vezels van het verzwakte leder verlijmd. Hierdoor wordt de zwakke structuur terug verstevigd.
Vervolgens volgt het delicate proces om de rug van het boek te verwijderen. Hier lukt dit ondanks de slechte staat van het leder vrij aardig.
