La Fontaine: Sewing rings

Voor mijn deelname aan de Biennales Mondiales de la Reliure d'Art 2011 heb ik het wedstrijdboek Fables Choisis van La Fontaine ingebonden als Single Hinge Binding (zie ook Labels Fabre's book of insects & Single Hinge: Lunel). Deze bindwijze spreekt mij nog steeds erg aan vanwege de soepele opening van de omslag, de aparte vormgeving en concave vorm van het boekblok.
Voor de bekleding van de "naairingen" heb ik kangoeroeleder gedecoreerd volgens een methode die beschreven is door Trevor Jones in het artikel: "Extending the Options: the use of spirit Leather Dyes in Bookbinding Design" verschenen in The New Bookbinder Vol. 13. De foto's spreken voor zich: leder, ouderwetse "plakletters" en lederverf. De letters die op deze naairingen (en die dus de verbinding zijn tussen de tekst en de omslag) werden "geverfd" zijn: S, F, A, E, L, B. Of ook FABLES. (voor de oplettenden onder jullie, de enkele C (op de foto) is later weggelaten).

For my participation at the "Biennales Mondiales d'Art de la Reliure 2011" book I have bound the competitionbook Fables Choisis of La Fontaine as a Single Hinge Binding (see labels Fabre's Book of Insects & Single Hinge: Lunel). This bindingtechnique still appeals to me due to the smooth opening of the cover, the distinctive design and concave shape of the book block.
For the covering of the sewing rings I have used kangaroo leather decorated with a method described by Trevor Jones in the article:" Extending the Options: the use of spirit Leather Dyes in Bookbinding Design "published in The New Bookbinder Vol. 13. The photos speak for themselves: leather, old fashoned lettering and leather dyes. The letters on the sewing ring (and thus are the connection between the text and cover) were "painted" are: S, F, A, E, L, B. Or again FABLES. (For the observant among you, the single C (on the photo) was subsequently omitted).
