Na het naaien werden borden en rug (van 1,5 dik karton) aangebracht. Door de grote omvang is vooral de zwaartekracht een risico voor het boek. Er worden dan ook allerlei technieken (Engelse rug, oren etc) gebruikt om een zo stevig mogelijke verbinding te krijgen tussen boekblok en omslag.
Tenslotte worden de valse ribben aangebracht.
